This certification course offers in-depth training on implementing natural learning environment practices and a coaching interaction style with families, using the Child Interest Activity Plan (CIAP) as a practical tool. 

To successfully complete the course, you must demonstrate fidelity inusing the CIAP. Anyone who does will earn a two-year renewable certificationthat authorizes them to train and support colleagues in applying the tool effectively. 

 

Prerequisites for this course:

  • Early Intervention Series: Natural Learning Environment Practices
  • Early Intervention Series: Coaching

This course includes 8 sessions. One asynchronous session you can complete anytime prior to the first scheduled live session and seven synchronous sessions. 

The sessions include:

Lesson 1: Introduction to the Child Interest Activity Plan (CIAP). Complete this 45 minute lesson on your own before the first live session.

Lesson 2: Helpful hints and getting started (live synchronous meeting)  [Date/time,TBA]

Objectives

This course is intended to achieve the following outcomes:

  • Participants will understand the conceptual framework and consequences of using natural learning environment practices and a coaching interaction style.
  • Participants will operationalize the use of natural learning environment practices and a coaching interaction style during early intervention visits.
  • Participants will use data collected from self-observation and family feedback to make continuous improvements to their early intervention practice fidelity.
